Motion graphics design
For the 2021/22 race season, the in-house team at Formula E were tasked with creating a design system that was an evolution of the existing identity. With a full rebrand on the horizon, this system needed to be a subtle move forward, streamlining and optimising the Formula E visual world.
The chosen system entitled 'City Grid' utilised bold rectangular forms with high contrast, embracing the hard lines of the cityscapes in which Formula E races.
The second phase of the project was exploring how the city grid could work in motion. I developed a motion system which was implemented across on-site event screens and the Formula E broadcast product.
Motion system studies
The design system was put through its paces for the first time at the 2021/22 Formula E season opener in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. The podium was set within a 60 metre wide, 15 metre tall stage, wrapped on all 3 sides in LED screens. I was tasked with creating a motion graphics package for the podium ceremonies that utilised the city grid design system.
